About ◯ Yen -MADOKA-

Circle -MADOKA- Unglazed

We believe that the beauty of nature lies in its curves.
Ripples in water, flowing rivers, branching trees, spiral patterns in shells.
These curves found in nature are not only beautiful, but also have a strength that has been tested and refined over the years.
This model, "Madoka," best fulfils one of QUTOTEN.'s philosophies : "beautiful and functional."

"Muglaze" is a fired flowerpot made using only black clay, without any glassy glaze.
Compared to glazed flowerpots, we believe that unglazed pots have better breathability, allowing the water inside the pot to dry more quickly and allowing the roots to breathe more easily.

◯ QUTOTEN.'s philosophy

At QUTOTEN., we create flower pots based on six philosophies.

  1. Be natural.
  2. Beautiful and functional.
  3. Blend in rather than standing out.
  4. Don't tell everyone everything, leave it up to the listener.
  5. Try incorporating waste.
  6. First of all, we enjoy ourselves.

About Touan, the Kyoto-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki Pottery Maker

Since its founding in 1922 at Sennyuji Temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto, the Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery manufacturer "Touan" has continued to use high-quality raw materials and create works by skilled craftsmen, which have earned it a high reputation for their quality and creativity.
While inheriting the traditions of Kyoto ware from Nonomura Ninsei and Ogata Kenzan, he is constantly working on technological innovation and continues to create works that stand out from other Kyoto ware.
"Madoka" was planned and designed by QUTOTEN., and was produced by artisans after numerous consultations with Yoshiaki Dobuchi, the fourth-generation head of the family, about the development of glazes and the selection of clay.
