This project is a collaboration between domestic and international artists who have collaborated with QUTOTEN.“Next generation Hanafuda” It is a challenge to create.

 

Project overview

◆ Purpose

traditional Japanese card gameto the next generation through the power of contemporary art.

In addition to creating innovative designs together with the participating artists, we will also create designs that follow on from ``Cherry Blossom Viewing'' and ``Wild Boar and Butterfly.''New role” We are also looking at ways to improve the gameplay by devising new ways to improve the gameplay.

 

◆ Artwork production

Choose the bill you are responsible for from a total of 12 types of monthly bills, and each artist will draw an animal motif based on their specialty worldview.
While following traditional designs, it combines a variety of styles such as modern motifs and street art.
QUTOTEN. will be in charge of final design adjustments to the designs, ensuring that the artist's individuality is maximized while preserving the style of the Hanafuda cards.

Vol.1 “Japanese pepper fish in Hagi”Yuta Niwa

Japanese painter Yuta Niwa

Yuta Niwa, a Japanese painter, paints giant salamanders, catfish, and the unique monster ``Corona Maz'' with themes of disasters such as earthquakes and epidemics. He has developed expressions that straddle tradition and modernity, such as painting fusuma on the sub-temple of Tofuku-ji Temple and Komyo-in Temple. QUTOTEN. participated in this project because it resonated with its fundamental theme and Japanese aesthetic sense. Please take a look at the story of disaster and prayer that arises within the Hanafuda cards.

 

Vol.2 “Willow and Tiger”Uramasa

Ink painter Masa Ura

Uramasa is an ink painter who vividly draws animals by making use of the shading and blurring of ink. He is active in a wide range of activities, including publishing the reading picture book ``Morris's Kotori'' and dedicating paintings of cloud dragons and tigers to the sub-temple of Tofukuji Temple and Komyo-in Temple. At QUTOTEN., we were attracted to the expression that combines softness and strength, and decided to participate in this project. Please enjoy the lovely yet deep worldview developed in the form of Hanafuda.

 

Vol.3 “Deer in autumn leaves”Nakajima Sho

Contemporary artist Sho Nakajima

Based on the themes of natural cycles, harmony, and symbiosis, Sho Nakajima uses his pen to depict the fusion of animals and plants. He is developing his own unique world view, such as being in charge of the cover illustrations for the book ``Tomorrow, Reborn and Doing It.'' At QUTOTEN., we resonated with his view of life and his detailed depictions, and we decided to participate in this project. Please take a look at the new forms of life and the story of circulation that appear in the Hanafuda cards.

 

Vol.4 “Plum and tortoise shell peony”Robin

Taiwanese artist Robin

Robin is a Taiwanese artist who creates unique characters and shapes based on ceramics. His figurine works have received high acclaim, especially in Taiwan and Japan, and have attracted attention, selling out every time they are announced. At QUTOTEN., we sympathized with his unique sense of form and appeal that transcends borders, and decided to participate in this project. Please experience the new three-dimensional visuals that have been incorporated into Hanafuda.

 

Vol.5 “Cat on irises”SHOW-GO

Human Beatboxer SHOW-GO

SHOW-GO, a human beatboxer who has received acclaim both domestically and internationally for his sonic expressions. In my own project, ``Eriashi Shoten,'' I also create illustrations and incorporate them into products. We have collaborated with QUTOTEN. in the past, and for this project they took on a new approach to visual expression. Please take a look at the unique expression that transforms rhythm and sensation into visuals.

 

Vol.6 『Willow ni Oyaji”Shiriagari Kotobuki

Manga artist Hisashi Shiriagari

Manga artist Kotobuki Shiriagari is known for his unique expressions that combine humor and satire. His representative works include ``Yaji Kita in DEEP'', which won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award for Excellence, ``Midnight Yaji-san Kita-san'', which was made into a movie, and ``Earth Defender Hitobito'', which was serialized in the Asahi Shimbun. At QUTOTEN., we were attracted to his free thinking and critical nature and decided to participate in this project. Please enjoy the light and sharp perspective that unfolds in Hanafuda.

 

Vol.7 “Fox on the Pine”YANG YANG

Illustrator YANG YANG

Illustrator YANG YANG adds color to many spaces and works with his soft touch and unique character expression. He has presented his works at famous hotels and exhibitions both domestically and internationally, and is in charge of drawing the opening animation for the Netflix series "Prism Rondo." At QUTOTEN., we were attracted to his friendliness and expressiveness and decided to participate in this project. Please take a look at the gentle yet impressive worldview that spreads within Hanafuda.

 

Vol.8 “Awn and Moon Rabbit〈Lunavit〉”Takaya Imamura

Character designer Takaya Imamura

After retiring from Nintendo in 2021, Takaya Imamura is involved in training the next generation as a professor at Osaka International Polytechnic University, while also working as a freelancer. He has worked on the art direction of Star Fox, F-ZERO, and the Legend of Zelda series, and in 2022 he will release the manga ``OMEGA 6'' in France, and in 2024 he will release the Switch version ``OMEGA 6: The Triangle Stars''. At QUTOTEN., we sympathized with his creativity and ability to build a worldview, and we decided to participate in this project. Please pay attention to the new character expression in Hanafuda.

 

Vol.9 “Peony and Morimiya”Yasushi Yamachika

Kutani ware painting artist Yasushi Yamachika

Yasushi Yamachika focuses on painting Kutani ware and develops expressions that combine traditional techniques and modern sensibilities. The paintings created with colors and brushstrokes have a strong presence that transcends the boundaries of crafts. At QUTOTEN., we felt that this expression would resonate well with the Hanafuda format, so we decided to participate in this project. Please take a look at the new charm of painted expression where tradition and modernity intersect.
