[Artist introduction]

Yasushi Yamachika ( @yasushi_yamachika )
YASUSHI YAMACHIKA

Born into a family that has produced Kutani ware for generations, he grew up surrounded by Kutani ware from an early age, and from the world depicted in the traditional five Kutani colors (green, purple, yellow, deep blue, and red) he senses the beauty of color and free expression, creating a fantastical and unique worldview.

He personally handles all the processes, from shaping to overglaze painting.

The animals painted on the vessels created during the Tatara process are brought to life with rhythmic, dynamic lines and colors using a unique blend of paints.

While valuing the traditions of Kutani ware, the company continues to explore new forms of expression.

- Winner of the Grand Prize at the Traditional Kutani Ware Crafts Exhibition
- Selected for the Japan Crafts Exhibition 5 times

[Kiln introduction]

Taishigama was opened in 2011 by Kutani ware artist Yasushi Yamachika in Nonoichi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Although Yamachika was born as the fourth generation of Seizan Kiln, he opened his own kiln in order to express his unique worldview.

The name "Taishu" was inspired by the words of Dr. Clark, known as the father of Hokkaido's development, "Boys, be ambitious!" and was chosen with the intention of "respecting the traditions of Kutani while expressing new Kutani ware."

Using techniques handed down from generation to generation, we create products with the themes of "modern designs that make use of tradition" and "ease of use in everyday life."
