Starting September 21st, 2023, we will be setting up a stall at Koboichi, a festival held on the 21st of every month at Toji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism in Kujo-cho, Minami-ku, Kyoto.
Toji Temple was built during the Heian period and is the only surviving relic of Heian-kyo.
At Kobo Market, approximately 1,000 stalls are set up within the grounds of Toji Temple.
It's a wonderful place where you can also view the five-story pagoda of Toji Temple, so if you have time, we would be delighted if you would come and visit Toji Temple.

[Toji Temple Festival "Kobo Market"]
"Ennichi" is considered to be a day for having a "fate," and it is said that visiting a shrine on this day will bring great merit.
At Toji Temple, the festival is held on the 21st of every month in the Goei-do Hall to commemorate the death of the founder Kukai on March 21st. This refers to the Mikage offering.
Originally it was held once a year, but after 1239 it began to be held monthly.
People began to visit the shrine in great numbers, and on the day of the festival, merchants began to appear selling tea from very simple stalls, with the price of "one puff, one sen" increasing.
It is also said that the origin of the modern-day "Kobo-san" can be traced back to the Edo period, when not only tea shops but also nurseries and pharmacies began to appear.
