[Essay 004] Blend in, don't stand out.

"Hare and Ke"

Do you know this term?

Sunny weather means something out of the ordinary.

Words like "formal wear" and "formal stage" refer to special occasions such as weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies.

Everyday life means everyday life.

It refers to a very ordinary, unremarkable life.

Naturally, everyday life takes up the majority of our lives.

However, with the spread of social media, we now indirectly witness someone's sunny day on a daily basis.

While for individuals, extraordinary events only happen occasionally, happy events are happening all over the world at all times.

(Just as new life is born and dies every day)

And when information about other people's happy days becomes a daily occurrence, people tend to want to make even their own day special.

However, sunny weather uses energy.

Because you're doing something you're not used to.

If that happens every day, it's tiring.

It's like walking with your back straight every day.

The philosophy of QUTOTEN.

"Blend in, don't stand out."

The reason I put

There is richness in everyday life,

This is to rediscover the beauty that can only be found there.

. . . .

Changing the subject a bit,

Have you ever heard of a tea master named "Hechikan" who lived in the same era as Rikyu?

His way of life was truly that of a master of everyday life.

(He is someone I respect and I am often invited to tea ceremonies in my dreams.)

The period when Nobunaga and Hideyoshi became rulers of Japan was the height of the tea ceremony's popularity.

We are particular about matcha bowls, tea caddies, sliding doors, tea kettles, flower vases, and pitchers...

There's no end to the things you can be particular about, but being able to distinguish between good and bad things was a status symbol at the time.

In such an era, Nekan

"If you have one well-used tea kettle, you don't need anything else."

That was our stance.

What is the most important thing at a tea ceremony?

For Nekuni, it was not a ranking game to distinguish expensive tea utensils considered to be masterpieces, but simply enjoying conversation with customers.

"If you're trying to enjoy a conversation and there are distractions all over the room, it can be distracting."

I say that a lot.

. . . .

Being relaxed and unpretentious makes you and those around you feel at ease.

During everyday life, which takes up a large part of our lives,

I still want to calm my mind.

QUTOTEN.'s manufacturing is

We are conscious of "design for everyday use."

Harmony in space.

Blends into your life.

These tools reveal a different side to themselves as they are used.

This way of thinking may go against the trend in an age where "vivid and easy-to-understand things" tend to attract attention, but as a creator, this is what feels right to me.

In search of the "beauty of Ke" that resides in the ordinary everyday...
